The Life Change Path
Life Change Can Happen
I very much believe in Life Change, and I know first hand that Life Change is possible.
Years ago – September 4th, 2011, to be exact I was standing in a church talking to someone about the idea that people can change their lives and the person I was talking with told me
“Steven you are wrong. Life change can’t happen.”
I was so incredibly frustrated with this ludicrous declaration that to protest I went to the lobby, got my iPhone out of my pocket, pulled up my GoDaddy app (they had an app back then), and I purchased the domain –
I am a different person now, and today if I was standing in a church (or anywhere else) and someone told me “Steven you are wrong. Life change can’t happen” my response would likely be to say “Fuck You, you’re a moron” and walk away.
As I mentioned – I very much believe in Life Change, and I know first hand that Life Change is possible.
If You Want To Change Your Life… Or If You Might Want To Change Your Life…
If you want to change your life or if you might want to change your life, one of the most important lessons I have learned about Life Change has to do with WHEN a person’s Life Change journey actually begins.
I call this lesson The Life Change Path.
“You cannot travel within and stand still without”
Those insightful words appear in James Allen’s 1903 book As a Man Thinketh.
You are on the Life Change path the moment that you begin to become aware that Life Change might be something that might be helpful for you to consider.
People get that awareness long before they allow themselves to really want to change their life, and long before they think that it is possible for them to change their life.
For many – that awareness begins very faintly like a dimmer switch that has been moved just slightly.
You may walk on The Life Change Path for a long time simply considering the idea that Life Change might be for you.
If Life Change happens for you – you will pass by some important mile markers as you traverse The Life Change Path:
You will begin to allow yourself to start thinking about what your life might be like if it did change for the better.
At some point you will begin to want to change you life.
Further down the path you will begin to wrestle with whether or not you think that Life Change is even possible for you.
Please know this – you will have walked a long ways down the Life Change Path long before you ever begin engaging in any external doable steps that will lead to life change.
The internal steps you take on The Life Change Path are just as important as the external steps.
Life Change and Readiness
For many people, myself included, Life Change is thought about long before it happens. Sometimes we just aren’t ready.
So what if you are reading this article and the idea of Life Change is appealing to you, but you know that right now you are just not ready to begin taking the needed external doable steps that will lead to life change?
I have some helpful suggestions for you!
#1 Celebrate and embrace the fact that simply considering Life Change puts you squarely on the beginning of The Life Change Path!
Why is that worth celebrating? Because – If you keep walking down the Life Change Path you will eventually reach the place where you are ready to take the needed external doable steps that will lead to life change and your life will change!
A Story Please!
29 Years Later…
Growing up I loved books!
As a toddler I started out with Richard Scarry books and Little Golden Books.
Early on in grade school I read the Hobbit by JRR Tolkien. Please note – that particular book changed my life, but that is a story for another time.
By the time I was 8 years old I was reading and collecting the entire Hardy Boys series.
At 12 years old I added Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes books to my reading list.
When I was 16 years old, way back in 1985, I realized that I really wanted to become an Author…
I hated my High School English classes, and as far as I knew I did not like writing.
That being said I loved books, and I really wanted to become an author. I had utterly no idea how this dream would or even could come true.
As the years rolled by my heart felt desire to become an Author, and accomplish this significant Life Change step did not go away. It was an unfulfilled dream that smoldered there in the background of my heart.
To top it off – I did not think it was even possible for me to become an author, because I was a two-finger typist, and I was not at all fond of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
It was not until the summer of 2011 that I was able to voice out loud this long held desire.
It was then – in 2011 – that I decided to build a new brand new career for myself out of thin air, and I set four goals –
#1 to become Self -employed,
#2 to become a Food Writer,
#3 to become a Professional Speaker and,
#4 to Become an Author
In 2014 I was 46 years old and I became a real life Author!
Way back in 1985 when I was 16 years old was when I became aware of my desire to become an Author.
It took me 29 years of walking down The Life Change Path to see this dream come true.
I am so glad I stayed on that path!
By the way I am still a two-finger typist, and I am still not at all fond of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Recapping Suggestion #1
If the idea of Life Change is appealing to you, but you know that right now you are just not ready to begin taking the needed external doable steps that will lead to Life Change you would do well to —
Celebrate and embrace the fact that simply considering Life Change puts you squarely on the beginning of The Life Change Path!
Suggestion #2 Nurture Your Dream!
Even if you have no idea how you could ever accomplish the Life Change you are thinking about, and even if you are like I was, and you don’t think that it is possible for you to accomplish the Life Change you are thinking about, nurture that dream!
In the book of Proverbs 13:12 it says, “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick” (KJV) – That is so stinkin’ true!
I will admit it can be painful to nurture a long held dream that still has not come true.
Know this – unfulfilled dreams don’t go away – even the ones you try to extinguish.
Unfulfilled dreams don’t go away they simply smolder in the background of your heart and cause ongoing heartache.
In my experience it is much better and less painful (note – not painless), to simply embrace the desire that is there in your heart and celebrate that you are on The Life Change Path and nurture your dream until you are ready to begin taking the needed external doable steps that will lead to life change.
Suggestion #3 Make It Real!

One Last Thing…
Someday if you are ever ready for it, I have a very special community of people who are all pursing Life Change in way or another who cheer each other on.
Some of the people in this community are building brands, some them are building businesses, some of them are pursuing the dream of becoming an Author, others are learning to play a musical instrument, some are pursuing Life Change as it relates to physical fitness goals, and some are taking the steps needed to have a new career, I could go on. You get the idea.
Regardless of what life change is being pursued, everyone in this community cheers each other on.
I call this community Bonfire Caravan – Let the dogs bark, this caravan is moving on.
I founded and lead this community because when I decided to completely change my life in the summer of 2011 I did not have vey many people cheering me on.
In fact – I had a number of people telling me that I was crazy and that I would never make it. That was so painful.
Bonfire Caravan is the encouraging community I wished I had back then.
People who join Bonfire Caravan:
#1 Are ready to tell those who will cheer them on what the specific Life Change is that they are pursing.
#2 Are ready to first discover, and then talk about the external doable steps they need to take that that will lead to life change they desire.
#3 Commit to be a positive and encouraging influence within the Bonfire Caravan community.
When the time right – the community that will cheer you on and encourage you on exists and is ready for you!
